Retevis Ailunce HD2 AES256 Encryption clarification

Hello Operators.

Lots of operators have asked about the encryption capabilities of Retevis Ailunce HD2. Seems people find the update “hard to believe”. 🤣 Nevertheless, I reached out for clarification about AES128 and AES256 support, so you all would get the definitive answer, straight from the Retevis Ailunce brand.

Retevis sent over their affiliate links for the HD2. Some of these links will bring commissions to the channel, without any cost to you.

I asked three question regarding the HD2 release, and AES128/AES256 support.

  • Question 1
When will the support website be ready for the HD2?
Answer: – The software has been updated on Ailunce website, users can download anytime.
  • Question 2
When will the AES128 & AES256 firmware be released to public?
Answer: The final version firmware is still under optimizing, please e patient while we work on that.
  • Last question
Will the CPS software support encryption key tranfer, and/or will encryption keys be programmable from the front panel of the radio?
Answer: Due to security considerations, the encryption keys can only be set within the CPS software. Programming the encryption keys on front panel is not safe, we assume if there is some bad actor erroneously comes into possession of one’s radio, and ultimately your code keys. This may sound far-fetched, but could happen. Using the CPS for setting encruption keys, maintains a higher level of security.

If you haven’t done so already, please remember to read the episode notes for the Retevis Ailunce HD2.

Alright guys. I hope this post helps clarify the incoming AES256 functionality. I understand the excitement of getting AES256 support, and the frustration of not having any up-to-date information about it. I only received the beta firmware myself less than a week before this post was published. Be patient, it’s coming!

  1. Hi Julian many thanks for confirmation, I discovered thanks to other radio HAM via YT, the downloading for the CPS sw 1.05 and the FW that include the AES256 & 128 encryption.
